This year, our annual Innovam project day was at the invitation of Marlies Keers-Kamp of Innovam Publishers.
Timloto-OS Project Day
Fifth Project Day - course year 2008-2009
Innovam Nieuwegein
At the invitation of Marlies Keers-Kamp of Innovam Publishers
Participants: see attendance list.
We were highly grateful for the invitation.
We had asked Marlies if there was someone from the publishing department who could tell us about the update of the book series and about the exams in relation to the Timloto lesson material. After the project day was opened by Ep, Leen van den Hil took over to explain the updates in the book series. It was especially interesting to hear about the concept of presenting certain subjects from a technical perspective and then reviewing the material in math and language lessons. The book series for level one is very attractive.
Exams are always a difficult subject and a source of heated discussion. Each school is responsible for their own exams and that means that testing on a national level is rather confusing. There are extreme differences in levels for the same type of courses at different schools. Our question was to what extent the Timloto lesson material can be used for a complete level 4 training. Can a school work according to the Timloto principle and can this be a model for official recognition from the Department of Education?
Rob v/d Hoek explained this in detail and told us about the possibilities that Innovam provides to schools in the way of a responsible examination method. A combination of Timloto lesson materials, an exam committee for the theory, and insight into the practical exams will certainly lead to a solid training program. Responsibility for the exams will remain with the schools but it is useful to know exactly where Timloto fits in the program.
After an excellent lunch in the Innovam restaurant, it was back to the technical business of the project day.
Ep demonstrated the prototype of the Timloto / Elektor controller and showed the manner in which this controller can be programmed with AVRStudio 4. Thirteen practice programs with questions have already been completed and placed on the site.

Willem has been in contact with 'PhET Simulations' in the U.S. and we now have permission to place their Java animation clips on our own site. These are excellent electronics animation clips and even have a Dutch translation. However, we need to write lesson material to accompany the clips. Anyone interested?
Willem and Ep will send a 'thank you' message to Phet Simulations.
This pleasant and highly effective project day ended at 15:30.
Once again, we would like to thank Innovam for their hospitality.
