Ep Gernaat opened the meeting and the agenda was set.
Timloto-OS Project Day
Fourth Project Day - course year 2008-2009
Mondriaan College Den Haag
Host: Ton de Waal
Participants: see attendance list.
- Remarks:
- Unfortunately, several participants were unable to attend.
- Thanks to Willem Tulp, the site has been updated again.
- The new controller print, the AT90CAN32 from Elektor, is on the way.
A number of new programs have already been placed on the site.
The February edition of Elektor will feature an article on the development of this new controller for automotive science education.
Hopefully, the price of the print can be kept well under 100 euros.
- In the afternoon session of this project day, information on the Timloto methods will be provided for the teachers at
Mondriaan College. A possible information session on the Go for Africa project may also take place.
- Measurements will be done on the test bench.
Tim van den Berg will be present to adapt the measurements to the Java program.
- The JAVA program - Measured Values
Kees demonstrated the program and the following remarks were made:
- it is a fantastic program
- two versions can be made: one for course participants and one for the teachers
- teachers should select the widgets themselves
- the grid should open with a measured value to avoid starting in an empty field
- the brand (make) name should be placed in the file and buttons should be placed in a tool bar
- the screen should be re-organized: the file placed on the left and the gauges on the right on an adjustable screen
- the program authors should be mentioned and a photo of the measurement session could be included
- Measurement session
Measurements were done on a VW EOS.
The first problem that arose was the difference in measuring apparatus. VAG-COM measures in seconds while the Toyota Intelligent Tester measures in milliseconds. Tim made a few on-the-spot adjustments.Although it was possible to complete some measurements, the test bench and measuring apparatus failed several times. These measurements are necessary for further development of the program.
Conclusion:
The VAG-COM allows us to measure and read out the results immediately. The Toyota Intelligent Tester stores the data in its memory first. The data can then be read out on a PC. This means that it is not possible to use our JAVA program to watch a 'live' Toyota measurement session.
- Timloto Information Session:
Near the end of the project day, a number of automotive science teachers from Mondriaan College were invited in for information on the Timloto objectives and the use of the Timloto website. Information about the 'Go for Africa' project was also provided. A lively discussion followed. Several teachers, however, expressed concerns about the safety of the GfA project.
- The next project day will be held at Innovam in Nieuwegein on 9 January 2009.
The secretary will be on holiday then and so will not be present.
The project day ended at 16:00.
Our thanks go out to Ton de Waal and Mondriaan College for their hospitality.
