Projects currently under development:

1. Megasquirt Project (2010)
Megasquirt is a programmable engine management computer. It is available as a soldering project with open firmware and programmable software. The Megasquirt computer can be used in the automotive electronics lab, as an engine management computer on demonstration panels and also on demonstration engines. Initially, Timloto will investigate possibilities for using the Megasquirt in the automotive electronics lab. Timloto participants would greatly appreciate external sponsors for a number of practice sets.

2. Lubrication Project (2010)
A guest lecture on lubricants by Kroon Oil B.V. sparked the idea to create a fuel and lubricant lesson grid on the Timloto site. A Timloto book is also being compiled. It is hoped that Kroon Oil will support us in these endeavors.

3. The lesson grids
Filling in and improving the lesson grids is an ongoing process.

4. The GoForAfrica project.
Timloto is contributing to the GoForAfrica project by translating the lesson grids into English. This is also an ongoing process. (See 'World Projects')

Completed Projects.

1. The Toyota PAL Project.

The Toyota-PAL Project was carried out between 2007 and 2009. (PAL stands for Practical Automotive Lessons)
During that time, the Toyota European Fund awarded a subsidy to Timloto to ensure the continuity of the Timloto activities and also to translate parts of the website into English.

This led to:
- Schools in the Gambia and Senegal being able to use the translated Timloto lesson materials.
- Teachers in the Gambia and Senegal receiving extra training.
- The completion of more lesson grids.

We are extremely grateful for the trust and support that Toyota has given to Timloto.

2. The     Elektor-Timloto Project

The Elektor-Timloto Project (2008-2009) involved the development of a new controller for automotive science education.
The new controller replaced the Motorola 68HC11. The Atmel AT90CAN32 was chosen for its specific automotive applications (CAN-controller on board) and its excellent educational properties. The project has now been completed.

The controller with dip switches is available from Elektor but can also be ordered, complete with the larger switches, from Steele Consulting B.V. Auxiliary PCBs such as the 7-segment display and others are also available.

The Timloto book on the AT90CAN32 can be ordered from Innovam. All educational projects for AVRSTUDIO can be downloaded from the relevant lesson grids.

3. The Educ@rproject
The Timloto working group closed off their part of the Educarproject in July 2005 with the completion of a CD which included all the programs that had been developed and the accompanying lessons in a pdf-format. The objective of the Educarproject was the development of free educational software. The project ended in January 2006.

All the programs can be found as downloads on this site. The programs were developed under the Linux control system by using Python as the programming language and Tkinter as the graphics library. Most of the programs also run under MS-Windows.

A list of the programs follows here:

Topic: Air conditioning

- Airco outside temperature
- Airco pressure measurement
- Airco task, questions and answers

Topic: Brakes

- Brake force distribution
- Diving during braking

Topic: Measuring-blocks (engine-data)

- Variable valve-timing
- Fuel direct injection system

Topic: Valve timing diagram

- Valve-timing, universal
- Valve timing Seat
- Valve timing Toyota
- Valve timing task, questions and answers

Topic: Diesel engines

- Exhaust gas recirculation system
- High Pressure pump
- Diesel measuring-blocks (engine data)

Topic: Electro

- Tasks: serial and parallel electrical circuits
- Tasks: electrical power

In conclusion.

Naturally, TIMLOTO would be happy to collaborate on new, large or small automotive science projects. Please contact either the chairman or the project co-ordinator of the TIMLOTO Foundation with your ideas, comments or requests.
