Timloto makes lesson materials under Open Source conditions. This means the materials are available
to students and teachers at no cost. This is achieved through continuing education courses where
automotive science teachers come together to further their professional skills. The knowledge gained
by the teachers is then translated into lesson materials for schools. By arranging the material in
lesson grids, an up-to-date curriculum is created. This curriculum is open to students and teachers,
the business sector, the school itself and the education inspection bodies. Co-operation with automotive science schools throughout Europe will improve the quality and diversity of the material and provide the opportunity to learn from each other’s educational and technical insights. International exchange programmes for students and teachers will also become more efficient and more effective. In the first place, it is necessary that parts of the Timloto site be translated into English. With financial support from the Toyota Fund for Europe, this has been made possible. A number of tasks have already been translated and placed on the website. We hope other European schools will support us in adding to the material. The next step, moving from European co-operation to world-wide co-operation, is a small step. It also means that the European schools can embrace a common goal: providing free and open lesson materials to developing countries.
